If Only We Were Amish
Yesterday, I went to Tara's house and she took me to PA to a store that is actually in the front of an Amish family's house. They sell all kinds of things in bulk quantities and it's mostly all healthy food. I was going just to see what it was like and I wasn't planning on spending much until.... I saw the oatmeal! I got a ten pound bag of rolled oats for only six dollars! So.. since that impressed me so much, I decided to purchase all of the ingredients for my favorite homemade granola. I kept telling Zach that I would make it again for him sometime but it's such a hassle to find all of the ingredients at a good price. I usually have to go to a couple health food stores until I find raw pumpkin seeds and they were at this store! So I bought all of the ingredients and decided to make it today.

I also bought three pounds of strawberry gelatin for only four dollars!
three pounds of raw sugar for $1.50 and even some yellow popcorn kernals for our popcorn popper that i now need to get out of storage thanks to the help from Tara's boys. They are so great! :) Tara also took me back to her house and ground me some fresh whole wheat flour! Like from the grain! It was so neat. Now I need a grain mill.
I went home so excited to start baking and cooking all kinds of stuff from scrach. I made jello last night from Zach's lunches. He loves loves loves strawberry jello. I even put them in little glad containers for single serve!
I put one in his lunch last night and he said he loved it! Then I made homemade pizza... even the crust! It was so good. I used the fresh whole wheat flour and you could taste the freshness. All that we had left was two peices that fit into a sandwich ziploc baggie!
It's so fun eating and knowing its healthy! I love having role models that eat the same way Zach and I do. We usually get made fun of for our healthy eating habits. Anyway.... I guess I better start making dinner.
We're having cheeseburgers tonight. mine with feta cheese and Zach's with cheddar. We're also having salad and leftover mac n cheese. Have a great weekend!

I am so proud of you, Little Miss Homemaker! :) It was such a fun day. I am glad you enjoyed my favorite little store and were able to find healthy stuff to stock your pantry...(well, except for the huge bag of strawberry jello, but since that made your husband happy, it was well worth buying!!)
What a great job! You are light years ahead of most of us!! Get into good habits now, then you won't have to retrain yourself when you care about your kids' health :)
Tara is great- she keeps us all on track! I need to get back into my weekly homemade pizza- you haven't had homemade pizza until you have tried Eric's though!!
sounds good! i can't wait until shawn and i can do that... i'm going to make him eat healthier whether he likes it or not ;)
